Traffic Architect Turn Bans, Lane Connections & Turn Lanes
To ban left turns and U-turns in Traffic Architect, open Turn Restrictions, select the junction and use the lane connector’s combined left/U-turn ban action added in 1.0.8. Choose Apply to place the signs or Cancel to abandon that draft. Removing a physical turn lane is a different task, and Reset junction also removes the bans at that junction.

Turn lane, turn restriction or lane connection?
| Control | Use it when | Do not confuse it with |
|---|---|---|
| Turn-lane tool | You want to add or remove an extra physical lane at a road end. | A no-left-turn or no-U-turn rule. |
| Turn restrictions | You want to make a movement illegal at a junction. | Demolishing the lane or road. |
| Lane connector | You want to choose which outgoing lane an incoming lane can reach, by dragging lane-to-lane lines. | Building another lane. |
The official 1.0.4–1.0.5 notes place the lane connector on the Turn Restrictions button. Its 1.0.8 combined ban action is a quicker junction-level operation, rather than a separate road-building tool.
Ban left turns and U-turns at one junction
- Pause if you want time to inspect the result without traffic continuing.
- Open Turn Restrictions and select the junction you actually want to change.
- Use the combined left-turn/U-turn ban button in the lane connector.
- Check that the selected junction and intended movements are correct.
- Choose Apply to place the signs. If you selected the wrong junction or do not want the change, choose Cancel.
- Recheck the junction’s allowed movements and the routes that depend on them before making the same change elsewhere.
This is one junction at a time. The source does not establish an automatic city-wide no-U-turn setting. For an individual lane-to-lane adjustment, follow the lane-connection steps rather than assuming the combined button preserves every movement you may want to keep.
Apply, Cancel and Reset do different jobs
| Action | Documented result | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Apply | Places the signs for the proposed ban. | The draft is correct and you want it active. |
| Cancel | Drops that proposed change. | You do not want to commit the draft. |
| Reset junction | Also removes turn bans at that junction in 1.0.8. | You intentionally want to remove those junction rules, after recording what you may need to restore. |
The 1.0.7 connector can also ask Apply or Discard when leaving it. Do not treat leaving an uncommitted editor as proof that your signs were placed, or use Reset as if it only closes the panel.
Why some roads already prevent the crossing turn
The developer recommends median roads when the goal is to prevent left/U-turn movements across the divided road. That is a road-design choice, not the same thing as placing a sign on every junction.
In 1.0.8, a new interchange on a main road without a median places no-turn signs where its ramps join the main road. The sign cost is included. That does not mean every existing interchange was automatically rebuilt or every other junction now has the restrictions you want. Inspect the actual junction after placement.
If a building becomes unreachable afterward
Recheck the restrictions and lane connections on the route you changed, including how traffic can enter and leave the destination. A road can look physically connected while its permitted movements prevent the required trip.
Full 1.1.0: the official release notes say an overloaded building now names the destination its cars cannot reach and marks it red. Start with that named destination to narrow the route check; the warning alone does not identify which rule is wrong. Demo parity with this newer warning is unverified. The No Route diagnosis gives the destination and district-route checks.
An older player reported recovering access by removing all network modifications. That is one report, not a reason to reset every junction first. Record the changed junction, try a local reversal of the relevant restriction, and check whether the intended trip becomes possible.
You have finished when the selected junction shows the intended restrictions after Apply, necessary entry/exit movements remain available, and you have not accidentally cleared a different junction’s rules. A temporarily empty road is not proof a ban is configured; inspect the junction controls.
