Road building
Traffic Architect Road Snapping & Guidelines
In Traffic Architect full 1.1.0, the new Guidelines setting starts off. On displays dashed guides; Snapping also aligns a T square with a road and nearby road ends. Choose the assistance you want and inspect the endpoint before building. The announcement says angle and length are always displayed while building. The separate Demo is not confirmed to have these new controls.

Choose visual guides or snapping
| Guidelines choice | Documented behavior | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Off — the default | The new guideline assistance is off. | Start here if you do not want those guide lines. Off is not documented as disabling every existing road snap. |
| On | Dashed guide lines appear. | Use visual alignment help without choosing the additional Guidelines snapping mode. |
| Snapping | Adds T-square snapping to a road and alignment with nearby road ends. | Use it when you want that alignment assistance, then check the intended target. |
The notes name this setting but do not establish a menu path, snap radius or temporary modifier to override it. Do not substitute the old browser edition’s Ctrl-snapping instructions.
Check the preview before confirming the road
- Confirm you are in the full release with the 1.1.0 changes. If you are using the Demo or browser edition, follow the edition check before looking for this setting.
- Choose Guidelines Off, On or Snapping according to the table.
- Draw the intended road and inspect the guide, endpoint, angle and length. In Snapping mode, check which nearby road or road end supplies the alignment.
- Confirm only when the preview ends where you intend. Inspect the placed junction or endpoint afterward; visual alignment alone does not prove a usable traffic route.
- If an eligible build was mistaken, use the documented paused undo branch rather than continuing to build around it.
If the endpoint jumps or a T junction will not fit
The same full 1.1.0 announcement separately says long roads snap less and their endpoint no longer jumps away from the cursor. It also says T junctions snap as close to a junction as the building rules permit, avoiding positions that would be refused. These are announced fixes, not a promise that every intersection location is legal.
Check the current preview and refusal message. If the unwanted behavior remains, record the build, chosen Guidelines mode, surrounding road ends and a preview screenshot. If the operation is an existing-road upgrade or turn-lane rejoin refusal, use road-editing diagnosis. If the wrong extent is copied, use Parallel Road chain versus piece selection; it is a different control.
The placement task succeeds when the chosen assistance matches your intent and the built road joins the intended endpoint or junction. If no valid preview exists, keep the refusal and exact geometry as the next diagnostic evidence; do not assume snapping bypasses building rules.

The complete November 3 full 1.1.0 announcement supplies Guidelines modes, angle/length display and the two snapping fixes. The historical browser-edition player discussion supplies the unwanted-snapping question, not the current Steam controls. The guide organizes preview and failure checks from those boundaries; no game UI or placement was tested here.
